Log grabber

Challenge: When grabbing and handling logs, the tip and inner side of the teeth are not only subjected to the huge pressure of the wood, but also to the intense abrasion of the sand and soil mixed in the bark. The teeth made of ordinary steel will soon be dulled and thinned, resulting in reduced gripping power, or even fracture, and frequent maintenance and replacement.

Solution: Use NM400/NM450 wear-resistant steel plate to manufacture the key teeth of the wood grabber. The high hardness of the surface can effectively resist the cutting abrasion of gravel, while the excellent toughness of the core of the plate ensures that no brittle fracture occurs when gripping heavy loads of wood, achieving the perfect balance of wear resistance and impact resistance.

Case in point: A forestry removals company has fitted its excavators with timber grabbers made from wear-resistant steel plates. The wear rate of the gripper teeth has been significantly reduced and the service life has been extended from around 6 months to over 18 months after the same intensity of operation. The gripping force remains constant and maintenance costs have been reduced by more than 60 per cent.
